They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home and we can very much agree with this statement. Kitchens are often the place where family and friends gather. It’s the place where delicious meals are prepared and where memories are made. They also say that ‘kitchens sell houses’ and again, this is often very true. But, if your kitchen does not resemble the ones saved on your Pinterest board or if you’ve always dreamed of having a different kitchen but don’t want to spend a lot of money, we’ve got the answer for you. Enter the Dulux Renovation Range. This range was specifically designed to make renovating your kitchen easy and cost-effective, all while being stylish and up-to-date. Sometimes all your kitchen needs is a change of paint colour and it’ll be almost unrecognizable. We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Dulux’s Brand Manager, Nick Walsh, and Dulux’s New Zealand Colour Specialist, Davina Harper, about the Dulux Renovation Range. They also offer insight on how to create a beautiful kitchen on a budget and how to select the perfect colour for your kitchen renovation. We also have a look at how some of our design community have used the Dulux Renovation Range in their latest kitchen and bathroom renovations.
What are the benefits of using the Dulux Renovation Range to update your kitchen? What are some of the different applications this range can be used for in the kitchen?
Nick: Let’s face it, not everyone has the time to take on a full-blown kitchen renovation. Kitchens are notoriously one of the most expensive rooms in the house to renovate too, with most renovations starting at around $10,000, and moving sharply upward from there. In most cases, all your kitchen really needs is a coat of paint to bring it into the current decade. The Dulux Renovation Range is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways of doing just that. The revolutionary, water-based, interior range of coatings available in the Renovation Range are designed to transform most surfaces in the home, from tired cabinetry and old benchtops to outdated tiling, quickly and efficiently. Just a few coats will make old surfaces look fresh and brand new.

What is your advice on how to select the right colour for your kitchen? What is the secret to creating a kitchen that is inviting and inspiring when it comes to a colour palette?
Davina: When it comes to choosing paint colours for your kitchen, it’s important to think about a few key elements.
How you’d like the space to feel - When renovating your kitchen, do you want to create a clean and minimalist space or something softer and welcoming? Your choice of paint colour will really help create a mood or feeling for the space. Choosing a bright white such as Lexicon® Quarter can create a beautiful fresh, bright and clean looking kitchen; where, alternatively, going for a soft sage green such as Mossa can help personalise your space and create a real point of difference in your home.
The lighting and aspect of the space - If, for example, you are renovating a small kitchen that doesn’t get much natural light or is south facing, you might want to consider using a brighter white to help make the space feel larger. Alternatively choosing a warm white and neutral can help create a large space that feels cosy and welcoming.
The existing elements in your room - You want to make sure the colour you choose works with the room as a whole, taking into consideration things like your existing flooring or window treatments. For example, warm whites such as Natural White or Whisper White pair beautifully with timber accents in a kitchen. Whereas crisp whites like Dulux White on White or Lexicon® Quarter can help to open up your space and goes well with concrete floors or grey carpet.
What would be your advice to someone who wants a beautiful kitchen but is also on a budget? How do you make the kitchen the heart of your home without doing a full-blown renovation?
Nick: You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars updating your kitchen when one of the most cost-effective and easiest ways to transform your kitchen is with a fresh coat of paint. We developed the Dulux Renovation Range for this very reason - it’s the perfect weekend DIY and costs drastically less than ripping up your old kitchen and starting from scratch. Updating surfaces and cabinetry with on-trend finishes to achieve a contemporary finish will also make the world of difference to the heart of your home. New handles, for example, are a great way to finish off your freshly painted kitchen cabinetry, and there are loads of options out there that won’t break the budget. Easy tweaks even a novice DIY-er can do will make all the difference.
What are some of the most popular Dulux colours from this range?
Davina: The most popular colours in the Dulux Renovation Range include whites and greys such as: Lexicon® Quarter, Vivid White™, Dieskau, Silkwort, Whisper White, Natural White™, as well as soft blues and greens such as Mossa, Rainford and Five Fingers Peninsula.
Below are some examples from our design community on just how incredible a project can be when using the Dulux Renovation Range to give it a bit of a refresh.
