If you’ve ever wished your everyday felt a little more like a holiday, this Northern Beaches home might just inspire your next design. Built by Wattle Court Sydney North, and designed in collaboration with The Make Haus, this home brings a sun-soaked Palm Springs spirit to coastal Sydney, where laidback living meets playful design in all the right ways.

From the street, there’s an immediate sense that this isn’t your typical coastal home. Soft washes of pastel meet sculptural curves, setting the tone for what unfolds inside. It’s a confident shift in direction for the Wattle Court team, known for their classic Hamptons builds, and one that pays off in a home that feels fresh, expressive and full of personality.

Step inside, and the mood is instant. Warm desert tones, sun-faded pinks and terracotta hues layer effortlessly with tactile materials, creating a space that feels both vibrant and grounded. There’s a sense of movement too, guided by those signature curved ‘lazy arches’ that soften transitions between rooms and echo the relaxed modernism of Palm Springs design.

At the heart of the home sits a kitchen that’s impossible to ignore. A playful nod to retro design, it leans into blush tones while balancing them with rich, earthy finishes. Custom cabinetry introduces texture and warmth, while a deep-toned benchtop anchors the space, giving it that perfect mix of fun and functionality. The island becomes its own moment, wrapped in statement tiles that bring pattern, colour and a sense of energy.

A tiled alcove subtly forms a bar area within the wall, adding another layer of texture and functionality without interrupting the flow. Nearby, a rich brown chair anchors the fireplace zone, while a rounded pink sofa mirrors the tones of the kitchen, creating a visual thread that ties the spaces together. The organic green rug brings balance, softening the palette while adding an earthy counterpoint that makes the entire space feel considered and complete.

Flowing on from the kitchen, the dining and main living area continues this story of cohesion and contrast. With high ceilings and a statement light that floats above a sculptural timber dining table, the space is elevated and flooded with light.

The home continues to unfold through a series of thoughtfully designed living moments. In a secondary living area, brown panelling wraps the space in warmth, creating a more intimate atmosphere. This is contrasted by a playful pink and purple checkered rug, which injects personality and energy, while a crisp white corner sofa keeps the look feeling fresh and relaxed.

The bedrooms carry this same layered approach, each offering a slightly different interpretation of the home’s palette. One embraces a soft pink clay panelling that cocoons the space, paired with sculptural bedside tables that feel more like functional art. Another leans into a lighter, more pared-back aesthetic, where crisp white bedding is complemented by a softly glowing mushroom lamp. Sheer neutral curtains filter the light, creating that dreamy, sun-washed effect, while a marble side table and occasional chair add quiet moments of refinement.

The bathrooms each have their own personality, but all are tied together through bold tile choices and layered textures. Think terrazzo underfoot, expressive surfaces and a palette that feels curated yet carefree. Each bathroom adds different elements of the palette that complement each other beautifully.

Then there’s the connection to the outdoors, which feels completely seamless. Large openings invite in natural light and guide you towards a resort-style backyard where a custom pool becomes the centre of the landscape. Designed in collaboration with Contour Landscape Architecture and brought to life by Outdoor Culture, it’s a space that captures the essence of indoor-outdoor living.

Throughout the home, architectural details are continually stunning and unique. Arched doorways, soft curves and clean lines create a rhythm that feels considered yet effortless. It’s this balance between structure and playfulness that gives the home its unique edge. The result of this creative design is a Palm Springs-inspired home in Australia that beautifully blends mid-century character with modern functionality. It’s a home that inspires us to think beyond the expected, embrace colour, and create spaces that feel as good as they look.
