6 Kitchen Colour Trends for The Heart of The Home
We talk a lot about the functionality of kitchens. From integrated appliances to optimising layouts and incorporating storage, the list of functional considerations goes on. But along with soft closing cupboards and ovens that do it all, we have the all-important aesthetics of your kitchen. As the heart of the home, your kitchen plays a key role, and part of this role is you loving the way it looks. So, come with us as we explore six kitchen colour trends that are perfect for the heart of your home.

1. The Coastal Kitchen Colour Trend
We’re starting with a classic, the coastal kitchen. This refreshing palette of soft tones aims to connect you with nature while looking oh-so-good. The purpose of coastal interior design is to add a touch of calm, so bringing this style into your kitchen can help influence the feel of your space.
A coastal kitchen palette is made up of neutrals like whites, beige, greys and light, natural tones. We’re also seeing an increase in the inclusion of colours like blue, yellow, and green. We love how perfectly stainless steel appliances fit in with this palette as well as brushed brass accents like the Buildmat Charlotte Brushed Brass Gold Square Mixer.

2. The Minimalist Kitchen Colour Trend
Whether you’re a fan or not of minimalist interior design, there’s no denying this style has definitely made its mark on the industry. Its soft coolness can be found in all corners of the interiors world and is showing no signs of slowing down. A minimal palette is really just that, it’s quite muted but in no way is it boring.
A minimalist kitchen will usually consist of simple hues and often focus on one or two principal tones. For example, a minimalist kitchen may feature a subdued green with timber, or a light grey with a soft white. These palettes work to make the kitchen look and feel sophisticated without overwhelming elements.
Tip: A good way to keep a minimalist kitchen interesting is by adding texture in subtle ways. We love kit kat tiles, like the Raku White Tile from Tile Republic.

3. The Maximalist Kitchen Colour Trend
Maximalism, the aesthetic of excess. This artistic trend rose to popularity with the motto “more is more”, so, how exactly does this apply to your kitchen palette? As one of the more versatile palettes, maximalism is really about finding a colour scheme that brings you joy. Our only advice is to pick a palette that complements; it's always a good idea to keep the undertones similar. This is where you’ll find the bold elements of maximalism without the overwhelming feeling.
A maximalist kitchen palette is also the perfect excuse to get really creative with the pieces you add to your space. We’d be lying if we said we hadn’t made a mood board that included the amazing Smeg Dolce&Gabbana Divina Cucina Freestanding Oven, but if this is a little too much for your kitchen space, the 50’s Style Toaster in Pastel Blue is still a beautiful option.

4. The Moody Kitchen Colour Trend
The moody kitchen palette isn’t so much a style but rather a feeling. We’ve seen a lot of incredible moody tones popping up in homes ranging from modern masterpieces to classic interiors. A moody palette is a blended mix of dark tones ranging from deep blues to rich browns, stunning blacks and graphite greys. The purpose is to feel instantly invited into a luxurious space that feels both warm and dramatic. We love all the darker tones, but one way of bringing a little mood and visual interest to your kitchen is through art, like the Mina Mina Jukurrpa Canvas Print from Urban Road.

5. The Natural Kitchen Colour Trend
Like other trends, the natural kitchen colour trend focuses on making the heart of the home exactly that. Essentially the aim is to create a space that brings the outdoors in, making the space feel timeless and organic. So, naturally, the palette is filled with warm tones - think rust, greens, browns, and whites; anything that can be found in nature really. Natural kitchen palettes also have a lot of organic materials that play a large part in that outdoor feel so bringing in these colours is all about balance. If you bring in too many warm pieces, the space could feel a bit crowded and not overly welcoming. We love the idea of adding staple pieces, like the Granada Natural from Amber, with a rich terracotta look that will fit the palette and not overcrowd the space.

6. The Feminine Kitchen Colour Trend
We’re big fans of feminine interior design here at Style Sourcebook, so we had to give mention to the dream feminine kitchen palette. It’s not all pinks and florals (although it can be if you love that!), a feminine kitchen palette boasts a wide variety of tones. Think gorgeous silvers, golds, greens, and neutral tones that make your kitchen feel completely luxe. A feminine kitchen palette feels soft, yet bold in a beautiful contemporary way that will have you hosting every social event from the island bench. Speaking of island benches, we’re in love with the Pink Patagonia Quartzite from CDK Stone. This feature piece would be the highlight of any feminine kitchen palette with its natural soft pink earthy tones.
