Behind the Design | The Winning Mood Board That Inspired the Summit Archie Rug

In Partnership With: Rug Culture

Style Sourcebook Profile: Rug Culture

If having a hand in designing a rug was on your bucket list, then we’re sure you entered into our previous competition, hosted with Rug Culture. Our community was given the opportunity to create a mood board that would be used as the inspiration for a limited edition rug that follows on from Rug Culture's latest Summit range. So many incredible entries were submitted, but it was the striking mood board design by Vicky, from VV Interior Spaces, that won the competition. Alongside the exciting launch of the Archie Rug, we’re lucky enough to sit down with Vicky and the team at Rug Culture to discover the rug and learn more about the process behind its creation.

To enter the competition, Vicky designed the mood board featuring a blend of neutral and bold tones with various striking formations to create depth and interest. “I took into consideration the current style of arches but wanted to make it contemporary and therefore added further contours and lines to make no style dominant. I also wanted one side of the rug to vary from the other side, giving it a point of difference,” Vicky noted.

Once our competition judge, Jen, from The Interiors Addict, selected her top five entries, the Style Sourcebook community voted for Vicky’s mood board to win. From there the design process kicked off with four meeting sessions over the course of a couple of months. Vicky presented Rug Culture with the first set of designs which were then worked on and refined to establish a ‘favourite’.

“This involved some very slight changes to the design to ensure that our weavers would not have any difficulty crafting the pieces and many weeks of back-and-forth sampling with our manufacturer to ensure that we perfected the colours. Once we had shared the final product with Vicky and the Style Sourcebook team, the rug went into production. It’s been over a year in the making but we’re elated with the end result,” explains Unitex Marketing Manager, Andrea.

After working closely together on this incredible process, the Summit Archie Rug was created. Featuring an abundance of texture with its combination of both high and low piles, soft, geometric shapes, and warm neutral beige tones, the rug is the perfect balance of refined and comfortable. Not only are we so inspired by the Summit Archie Rug, but also by the collaboration and relationship formed between Vicky and Rug Culture. Vicky was able to bring her passion, enthusiasm, and creativity to Rug Culture where she could bounce ideas off a team with remarkable expertise within the industry. Vicky described the process as “an incredible journey of creativity and collaboration”. Rug Culture felt the same about working with someone in the design space who understood trends, colours, and the importance of functionality. It’s easy to see how this beautiful rug went from a mood board to reality.

“We took our time with the process, perfecting the details and drawing on each other’s expertise and the end result is a true work of art!”

We also couldn’t sit down with the people responsible for the Summit Archie Rug and not ask their top tips for styling a rug within a home. Vicky’s answer? “If space allows, go for a bigger rug and sit your sofa entirely on the rug. Otherwise, just opt for the front legs. For styling the Summit Archie Rug, the range of contours & lines gives the flexibility to allow any shaped coffee table to work, and then accessorise with different geometric shapes with depths of colour, which I think will create a balanced look effortlessly.”

We’re so honoured to present the Summit Archie Rug to you, as this collaboration was a special one for us here at Style Sourcebook. To explore the entire range of rugs from Rug Culture, head to the website
