Amuma Living | A Celebration of Timeless Design and Sustainability

Recently, Style Sourcebook had the pleasure of supporting the launch of furniture brand, Amuma Living. Designers were invited to explore their handmade collections, which blend Scandinavian influences with Italian refinement to create pieces crafted for the classic Australian lifestyle. Designers were also given the opportunity to chat about all things design with Rebeka Morgan, founder of BuildHer Collective, and hear from the team at Amuma Living, whose story is just as special as their mission. 

With deep European roots and a commitment to sustainable practices, the brand was created the bring unique, high-quality furniture, inspired by the world, to Australia. ‘Grounded’, ‘inviting’, and ‘timeless’, are the words that come to mind when we look at the furniture from Amuma Living. Each piece has been crafted under their core design philosophy which revolves around sustainability, durability, and uniqueness. To achieve this, the furniture is not only inspired by global influences but handmade globally as well. It was important to the Amuma Living team to find the right fit for the company, so they headed to Indonesia and engaged with suppliers who shared their values while combining traditional Balinese techniques with beach-inspired styles.

Amuma Living has two signature styles within its range, Urban and Tidal. Just like Australia has the surf and the city, the two styles allow for versatility amongst their products, meaning the inviting pieces can be included in a range of interior design projects. Think mid-century modern armchairs for a retro vibe or laidback lounges and coffee tables for that coastal atmosphere. We also love how the beauty and longevity of each piece are assured, thanks to Amuma Living’s experienced in-house designer, who studied furniture design in Amsterdam.

Beyond aesthetics, the comfort and tactility of the furniture are also important, with each material holding a responsible history. For example, some suppliers use reclaimed teak from old buildings to create the furniture, while others plant new trees to replace the wood they use. These materials, along with others like premium rattans and high-quality fabrics work to create furniture that is beautiful and sustainable.

Sustainability is at the forefront of Amuma Living, who, beyond partnering with suppliers who prioritise the environment, also take steps themselves. For example rather than large showrooms, the brand focuses on sustainable alternatives like hosting events, and open houses, collaborating with Airbnb or hotels to showcase their furniture, and of course, Style Sourcebook. 

Amuma Living has also partnered with Style Sourcebook to build strong relationships with interior designers and stylists. Collaboration is key for the company, as they offer not just furniture but also customisation options tailored to specific projects.

The Sunset Launch Event 

The recent rooftop sunset launch was not only a fantastic success, but it also showcased all the Amuma Living has to offer. The night began with plenty of good food, great conversations, and even better furniture. We were also able to meet members of the Style Sourcebook design community and chat about everything from the Amuma Living range to upcoming projects and even receive advice from Rebeka Morgan.

It was so inspiring to be able to experience the details of the furniture in person, but the night was made even better by hearing the story of Amuma Living. It’s evident how much passion has gone into each and every piece of furniture and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the launch of Amuma Living.
